Orgiva has a fantastic selection of restaurants catering to all tastes. There are several specialising in the local cuisine of Las Alpujarras. Of particular note is The Taray, which offers a fantastic terrace with spectacular views of Sierra de Lujar and the Guadalfeo Valley, an outdoor swimming pool. It has several dining rooms (including an outdoor open during the summer), and its restaurant Flor de Limonero, which serves delicious local, national and international specialities cooked with high-quality products.
The nearby Camping Orgiva Restaurant offers a wide selection of local dishes as well as simpler fare such as Pizza, Salads and Grills. Their speciality for the meat eaters is Roast Wild Boar. With stunning views from the outside terrace, this makes a lovely place to wind down after a day in the saddle!
Pampaneira is a village located high above the town of Orgiva, around 1060 metres above sea level and has some spectacular views and delightful Arts & Crafts shops. The village has a population of 355 inhabitants, but that doubles when the coaches arrive! It is one of three mountain villages of the Barronco poqueira in the Alpujarras region. There are many craft shops selling ceramics, leather and clothes. Also on offer are the locally produced specialities of cheese and ham. Guided walks are arranged by the local tourist offices which also sell mountain hiking equipment. At the north side opens the Sierra Nevada range with one of the highest peaks in Spain, the Mulhacén.
The Sierra Nevada Ski Centre is Europe’s southernmost ski station and the highest in Spain. With its high elevation, the skiing season can last from late November until early May. Particularly towards the end of the season, it experiences sunny days of skiing. The resort is around 1 hour’s drive from Orgiva and about 27 km from the historic city of Granada. At the foot of the slopes, there is a resort village, Pradollano, which is home to a large number of shops, including many that sell or rent ski equipment, souvenir shops and a small supermarket. There is also a variety of ski schools, restaurants, cafés, bars and nightclubs.
Where else in the world can you go Skiing in the morning, sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon and in the early evening take a leisurely ride through the stunning scenery of the Alpujarras?
The beach at Salobreña is around 30 minute from our Riding centre. There are two main parts of Salobreña; The first is The Old Town which sits atop a rocky prominence and is a cluster of whitewashed houses and quirky steep narrow streets leading up to a 10th-century Moorish castle. The second part of Salobreña is new developments which spread from the bottom of The Old Town right to the Beach. In total, there are five beaches Playa La Guardia and Playa de la Charca/Solamar.
