Explore the Alpujarras on horse back …...

We offer trekking from one hour rides to full day treks, exploring the river valley and surrounding mountains. We ride through  ancient olive orchards,  along the Gualdalfeo river, and delve through time, riding in valleys the ancient Greeks, Romans and Moors rode through.

 Ride out with confidence with with our experienced instructors and guides. Regardless of the season, the Alpujarras have something to offer and our horses are great company. We can take it at any pace you like and our horses will help those who might lack confidence while letting those with more experience enjoy the thrill of cantering along mountain paths. We are a small team and  you’ll never be lost in the crowd riding nose to tail or feel left out by those who might have more experience.

Novice Treks – For Beginners

You want to ride but you’ve never been on a horse?

Novice Treks are perfect for those who want to spend an hour or two  in the saddle, learning new skills and applying them while riding out on horse back with the confidence needed to fully enjoy the beauty of the Alpujarras.

You’ll have a thirty-minute lesson on your horse or pony in the arena before heading out on a Trek. We’ll take you through all the basics, making sure you look the part and are aware of all relevant safety issues. Then we will go out Trekking in a fun and safe way with our fully qualified instructors to guide you to the best locations.

 Day Treks

We have seven stunning day trek routes. On a day trek you will head out into the mountains on one of our wonderful horses & spend a whole day riding. We stop on the route for a picnic lunch. We can provide a lunch for you for a small additional fee.  Please let us know of any special dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Lunch boxes can be provided for an additional â‚Ĵ5 per person. We can make a meat, fish, or vegetarian, lunchbox for your ride. Lunch boxes  consist of a sandwich, a snack bar, a piece of fruit, a cake & a juice. If you would prefer to bring your own packed lunch you are welcome to do so.

In the interest of our horses’ welfare, day treks are not available during the hot summer months of July & August when temperatures can reach 40 degrees+ in the afternoon. During these times we offer half day  and shorter treks in the mornings & evenings. 

(Minimum 2 people)

Itinerary- Leave at 10 am returning back to the riding center between 4 pm & 5 pm

(Approx 6/7 hours. Times are flexible)

Please note: Day Treks are not suitable for novice riders due to the long hours spent in the saddle.

Happy Hackers Social Riding Group

Happy hackers social riding group is a group for local people who enjoy riding out in company. It gives riders the chance to meet new people and have a natter along the way. The rides are relaxed & informal & we ride out every week for 1 hour (sometimes longer) . The group is intended for active riders of all abilities who want to ride regularly. Those in the Happy Hackers group will benefit from discounted treks and  have exclusive access to other treks we have available in the week so there’s always opportunities to ride out with others & explore the place in which we are so lucky to live.

Our Trek Routes ... where will you ride today?

ROUTE OF THE ANCIENT OLIVE TREES 
1 OR 2 HOUR TREK 
A beautiful trek taking you along the well known “Ruta  de los olivos centenarios”. This trail takes riders past ancient olive trees dating more than 1000 years old.
Riders will pass ancient olive groves and scenes typical of life in the mountains which hasn’t changed much.
It’s highly likely riders will get stuck in a goat jam, The Alpujarran version of a traffic jam. On the two hour route we ride through Eucalyptus forest and along the Gualdalfeo river passing the iconic severn eye bridge
BAYAKAS TRAIL
2 HOUR TREK  
A two hour ride towards the small typical Alpujarran village of Bayakas. We ride up to a mountain  viewpoint with stunning 360 degree views over the mountains and surrounding villages. From here we can enjoy a great birds eye view of Orgiva.
MOUNTAIN LAKE RIDE

3 HOUR / 4 HOUR  / DAY TREK 

A stunning ride along mountain trails inaccessible by car to a secluded mountain lake

RIVER RIDE

A beautiful ride along the river  

Choose from 6 different day trek routes

  1. Ancient Olives & River Beach Trail

Day Ride along an ancient olive trail  and along mountain paths to a secluded lake for a picnic on the lakeside beach.

2. Mountain ride

Ride to a mountain view point with stunning views of the Alpujarra mountains  and its traditional villages and down through a small agricultural village returning back to the riding centre along the river and the ancient olive trail.

3. High mountains of Lanjaron

An epic ride along the  higher mountain trails above Lanjaron/Orgiva where you can enjoy views over the mountains of  the mediterranean sea and the Atlas mountains of Morrocco on a clear day. We will pass through olive groves and along ancient mule tracks passing waterfalls on the way stopping for a picnic.

4. Ride to Soportuja – the town of the witches!

A fascinating ride to the town made famous for its historical associations to witchcraft. Around the town there are supernatural points of interest and hosts a spooky fiesta each year to celebrate its past. According to the legend, the village welcomed night-time witches’ meetings whilst witches watched, hidden in the fog. For this reason, residents are known as brujo/as (wizards/witches). It’s a very special place to ride to and we pass religious local landmarks steeped in legend as well as the occasional dragon along the way! The route is for advanced riders and at some points it will be necessary to dismount and lead the horses.

5. Historical miners route

A day trek into Orgiva’s ancient mining past. The route of the miners is available as a day trek for experienced riders. Orgiva’s mining history goes back to ancient times when the minerals were mined by Hellenes, Phoenicians and Romans. This trek is off the beaten track and the views are incredible. 

6. Historical Orgiva

A ride through Orgiva’s ancient history. We pass monuments that commemorate Orgiva’s mining heritage as well as historical ancient forts and roman roads surrounding the town. 
There are points where riders will need to walk and lead with their horses on this trail.
